We welcome you to Zilwaukee School!
Zilwaukee School serves students in prekindergarten through 8th grade. We are located at 500 W. Johnson Street in Saginaw, Michigan 48604. Zilwaukee is proud to be recognized as a Stephen Covey Leader In Me School; the first official Leader in Me School in Saginaw County! As a Leader in Me School, our staff and students are discovering and practicing a set of leadership and life skills from Stephen Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The Leader in Me schools receive national recognition for their emphasis on developing leadership in young children.
With the support of parents and the
community, we are committed to providing academic rigor and leadership opportunities in a
safe and effective learning environment.
All members of our school community are working collaboratively to grow future
leaders together. Staff and students
model leadership through living the seven habits, exceeding expectations,
accepting responsibility for attitude, academics, and actions, and doing the
right things when no one is looking. Incorporating The Leader in Me practices within our school’s environment and curriculum will help our students become even more ready to succeed in the 21st Century, with critical skills and characteristics such as: trustworthiness, a strong work ethic, motivation, problem-solving skills, goal setting, effective interpersonal skills, a sense of teamwork, academic achievement and valuing diversity in a global market. By developing the WHOLE child-- socially, emotionally, academically and ethically, we will foster a school climate that promotes everyday greatness! Our
students are being empowered to lead our school in an effort to achieve school-wide goals and successes.
At Zilwaukee School, we take pride in offering a family-oriented setting to our students and their families. There are 21 professional teaching staff members and 31 support personnel, including ancillary staff, interventionists, aides, kitchen and cafeteria staff, custodians, and a secretary. Mrs. Tina L. Muñoz, is our principal. Our Title 1 Parent Liaison is Mrs. Jennifer LePeak. Mrs. Erica Partlow is serving as our PTCC President for the 2014-15 school year.
